Altus Power turns on Solar System at ESPN Headquarters in Bristol, CT

Jul 3, 2013 | News

As the nation looks towards alternative energy solutions, the state of Connecticut has established itself as a front-runner in this movement by aggressively pursuing higher standards of energy efficiency. In this effort, Connecticut has garnered support from various industries within the private sector. One such leader in this sector is Altus Power Management, a private investment firm specializing in solar energy project investments.

Altus Power Management, in collaboration with ESPN and Winstanley Enterprises, is pleased to announce the completion of a 663 kW solar system located on the rooftop of ESPN North Campus in Bristol, CT. “Altus Power is proud to have been able to provide 100% of the capital to build, own, and operate this important solar project for Winstanley Enterprises and ESPN,” says Tom Athan, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Altus Power Management. “As leaders in their industries, these two companies clearly saw the benefits of using solar to lower their electric bills while helping the environment.”

It is estimated that the 2,688 module system will offset 11% of ESPN’s electricity usage at this location over the term of the 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Under this agreement, Altus Power Management, as the owner of the system, will sell the generated electricity to Winstanley to support ESPN at discounted rates versus those paid to the grid. As a result, ESPN and Winstanley will receive and utilize clean electrical energy while benefiting from long-term savings on energy expenses.

The system should generate approximately 796,000 kWh of clean electricity each year. This production will offset the equivalent of 562 metric tons of carbon dioxide, 1,306 barrels of oil consumed, or 62,962 gallons of gas, annually.
