HAMPDEN, Mass. (WWLP) – A new solar array was unveiled in the town of Hampden Thursday. The facility was developed and constructed by Altus Power America, Inc. The energy made by the solar panels is being accessed by nearby towns of Belchertown and East Longmeadow each year.

John Maybury, Chairman of the East Longmeadow DPW Board, says that the project has already saved the town $20,000 in less than two months.

“We’ve seen our first credits, and it’s pretty exciting, because now we are going to see those continue to go. It will be highest in the summer, obviously, because that’s when the panels produce the most, but it’s going to be a good relief for some of our utility expenses,” Maybury said.

East Longmeadow expects to save roughly $125,0000 on utility bills each year.
