About the Position
Altus Power is currently seeking a highly motivated individual with the skills, experience, and aptitude to serve as a Sr. Solar Designer. This position will report into the Director of Engineering. This position is based in our corporate office five days a week in Stamford, CT.
Summary of Responsibilities
• Conduct engineering site audits to collect structural, electrical, and related site information for use in the design of commercial and industrial solar photovoltaic and energy storage systems.
• Prepare preliminary layouts and photovoltaic system production estimates using Helioscope and PVSyst platforms.
• Complete electrical photovoltaic system designs in AutoCAD, including modules, stringing, inverters, switchgear, rapid shutdown, data acquisition system, overhead and underground wiring system, cable tray and raceways, voltage drop/rise calculations, and protection.
• Review and coordinate civil, structural, medium voltage, and storage drawing layers.
• Provide technical direction and support to installation teams during installation, start-up, testing, system commissioning, and performance monitoring.
• Complete and coordinate Utilities’ interconnection applications, drawings and electrical gear shop drawing submittals.
• Visits sites for project feasibility and adherence to construction documents.
• Review equipment specifications and any substitution submittals by installation teams.
• Perform interval site inspections during the construction phase.
• Report any deviations and concerns to upper management.
• Provide solutions on how to mitigate issues.
• Review installation team’s final markup drawings and issue final as-built record drawing sets for projects at the end of the construction phase.
• Debug issues on Altus-owned sites to ensure proper operations of company-owned assets.
• Work with National Electric Code (NEC) – NFPA70; AutoCAD Software; designing storage coupled with Solar; PVsyst software; Helioscope and best practices and quality standards to ensure solar systems designs are reliable, safe, and compliant with regulations; and, utility interconnection requirements to appropriately design solar.
Requirements:
• Requires Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field of study, plus two (2) years of experience with National Electric Code (NEC) – NFPA 70; AutoCAD Software; designing storage coupled with Solar; PVsyst software; Helioscope and best practices and quality standards to ensure solar systems designs are reliable, safe, and compliant with regulations; and, utility interconnection requirements to appropriately design solar.
