Altus Power Community Solar - NY – Con Edison

How it Works
  • All our community solar projects are remote, meaning that there is no equipment installed on your home. The solar energy the project produces is sent directly into your local power grid.
  • By enrolling in Community Solar you will receive solar credits applied to your Con Edison bills, reducing the amount you owe on your power bill.
  • You will also receive a monthly bill from Altus for the solar credits you received from the community solar project. You must pay both bills.
  • In addition to increasing demand for clean energy, you will receive a 5% discount on the solar credits you receive, resulting in up to 5% off your utility bill.
  • Once you are connected to a community solar project, you will see savings on your monthly utility bill for as long as you are enrolled, for the lifetime of the project or until cancellation.
Billing
  • ConEdison recognizes the amount of clean energy produced by the project each month and issues solar credits.
  • Solar credits are like a store credit - they can only be applied to utility bills for local customers. We make sure those solar credits are distributed among the subscribers, like you, on the project.
  • In New York, Con Edison customers keep 5% of the solar credit value. The remainder goes to maintenance of the existing solar project and developing future renewable energy opportunities.
  • You will continue to receive your regular bill from Con Edison with solar credits automatically applied. You will receive a second bill from Altus based on the solar credits you received.
  • For every $1.00 credit on your utility bill, you pay Altus $0.95. For example, if you receive $100 in savings on your Con Edison bill, you will be billed $95 by Altus Power – a total savings of $5.
  • You can see the solar credits on your Altus bill match the solar credits on your regular utility bill. Credits show up on your utility bill as “transfer” or “adjustment”.
How Credits are Calculated
  • The amount of solar credits that you will receive is calculated based on your annual electricity usage so everyone connected to the project can receive optimal savings.
  • Solar power generation is seasonal, which means the amount of solar credits you receive will vary throughout the year. You can expect your credits to be higher in the summer, when there are more hours of intense sunlight, and lower in the winter.
  • It’s possible that your solar credits will offset over 100% of your utility bill and cause a buildup of solar credits. This is especially likely in the summer when solar production is high. In this case your utility bill will be $0 and any excess credits will be banked on your account. Banked credits do not expire and will automatically be applied to future bills.
  • If you believe that your annual usage has changed substantially from one year to the next, or you are continuing to see a buildup of solar credits on your account, please contact our customer service team so we can adjust the amount of solar credits you receive.
Moving and Cancellation
  • If you would like to cancel, please contact our customer service team at hello@altuspower.com. Once we receive your request, we will begin the process to remove your account from the project list. Please know that this requires action from your utility, and it can take 90 days for the utility to fully process your cancelation. During that period, you will continue to receive solar credits on your utility bill. Once your cancelation is complete, you will no longer see solar savings on your utility bill.
  • There is no cancellation fee.
  • If you are moving, please reach out to our customer service team in advance. If your new home has the same utility, let us know your updated address and account number, and we will happily transfer your community solar subscription to your new address as quickly as possible.
